Frequently Asked Questions

Pricing & Value

Why is private tutoring more expensive than general English apps or group courses?

Group courses and automated language apps offer generic, one-size-fits-all content. They cannot analyze your specific grammatical errors, evaluate your pronunciation in real time, or mark your IELTS/Cambridge essays against official examiner criteria.

With private coaching, 100% of the lesson is focused on your weak areas. Most candidates save both time and money by taking 10 to 20 targeted private lessons and passing on their first attempt, rather than repeatedly paying £200+ in exam registration fees after failing self-study attempts.

Do you offer installment plans for packages?

Yes. For our 20-Lesson Mastery Package (£680), you can split the cost into two equal monthly installments of £340 (the first payment is due before your first lesson, and the second is due after 30 days).

Online Format & Structure

How do online 1-on-1 lessons compare to in-person classes?

Online lessons are significantly more efficient than traditional classroom settings. We use google meet for video lessons, videos and pdf files in real-time, sharing screen for instant interaction and feedback, and recorded audio/video speaking sessions so you can review your performance later. Plus, you save time and travel costs by learning from home or work on Google Meet.

How are writing corrections handled between classes?

You submit your essays or reports via Google Docs prior to your scheduled class. I will mark your text using official Cambridge/IELTS band descriptors, pointing out grammar errors, vocabulary upgrades, and structural improvements. During your live lesson, we review these corrections together to ensure you understand how to avoid making the same mistakes under exam conditions.

What happens if I need to reschedule a lesson?

Life happens! You can reschedule or cancel any session free of charge via Whatsapp or text message, provided you give at least 24 hours’ notice.

Guarantees & Results

Do you guarantee I will pass my IELTS / Cambridge exam?

While no honest tutor can guarantee an exact score—since exam performance on the day ultimately depends on your execution, how you feel during exam, your stress level etc.

How many lessons will I need to reach C1 level if my level now is B2?

To progress from CEFR Level B2 to CEFR Level C1 (the requirement for the Cambridge C1 Advanced / CAE exam), Cambridge English estimates that a learner requires approximately 200 guided learning hours.

How many lessons that translates to depends on the duration of your lessons and the amount of independent study you do outside class.

1. Lesson breakdown by class type

Assuming you complement your classes with self-study (homework, vocabulary acquisition, and practice tests):

Lesson DurationEstimated Number of LessonsTypical FrequencyTotal Duration
60-minute individual lessons (1-on-1)150 – 200 lessons2–3 lessons / week6 to 12 months
90-minute group classes120 – 140 lessons2 classes / week7 to 9 months
2-hour intensive lessons100 lessons2–3 lessons / week4 to 6 months

Note: In 1-on-1 private tutoring, learners often move faster (around 120–150 hours of direct instruction) because the teacher can focus strictly on your individual weaknesses in writing and speaking.

2. Guided learning hours vs. total study hours

The 200 guided hours recommendation refers to classroom instruction, teacher-led sessions, or structured coursework with feedback.

To bridge the gap from B2 to C1 successfully, you should pair each classroom hour with independent study:

  • In-Class / Guided Work (~200 hours): Focuses on C1 grammar (advanced inversion, complex conditionals, subclauses), C1 writing formats (proposals, reports, essays), and targeted speaking feedback. practice-english.com
  • Self-Study / Immersion (~100–150 hours): Reading native articles, listening to complex audio, memorizing collocations and idiomatic expressions, and doing timed exam papers.

3. Key factors that increase or decrease lesson count

  1. Where you sit in the B2 range:
    • B2 High (Borderline C1): You may only need 60 to 80 lessons focused primarily on C1 exam strategy and exam-specific writing/speaking practice.
    • B2 Low / Solid B2: You will likely need the full 150 to 200 lessons to build advanced range, accuracy, and register control.
  2. Writing and Speaking Feedback: C1 writing requires specific register (formal/semi-formal) and complex cohesion. Having a teacher regularly grade your practice essays against C1 criteria speeds up progress significantly.
  3. Outside Immersion: If you use English daily at work or for studies, you will need fewer formal lessons.

During your Free 15-Minute Strategy Call, I will assess your current level and give you an honest estimate of the preparation time required. I will also send you a placement test checking properly your language level.
